Why am I doing this?

It’s complicated. I am NOT a veteran, but I have the highest regard for those who stepped up to serve. They deserve all of the thanks we can give them.

I never liked taking orders, and I still don’t, so the military wasn’t my cup of tea. And, interestingly, I was of age during one of the greatest peacetime periods this country has seen in decades - 1974 to 2001. And if you think that period was an accident, then you need to study up. The men and women you see on this site are a big part of that peace.

I also love portraiture. Specifically large format black and white. I could photograph models, and sometimes do. But I can guarantee you that the stories they have to tell are not nearly as interesting as the ones I hear from these subjects.

By the way. It was a bit of a rush, but this site launched on 11 November 2018, one hundred years to the day of the signing of the armistice ending world War I.
